Kevin Garnett scored 47 points, 3 above the previous Timberwolves record, in a losing effort against the league leading Phoenix Suns. Stoudamire also had a great game with 34 points and seemed unstoppable until he got ejected with his second technical foul;
“Fouled hard by Latrell Sprewell on a dunk, Stoudemire tossed the ball at Sprewell — who returned the favor. Both players were given technicals, meaning an automatic ejection for Stoudemire with Phoenix leading 116-100 and five minutes remaining in the game.” Source.
The Timberwolves made it close cutting the lead down to 116-110 with Szczerbiak’s 3-pointer which capped off a 10-0 spurt. Then down to five points with Szczerbiak’s 3-point play. Then with about 30 seconds left Garnett shot a 3 pointer which would have given him a 50-point game and cut the lead down to 2, but it hit the rim and was rebounded by the Suns. The Suns quickly hustled down the court and Shawn Marion sealed the game with a thundurous dunk.
Steve Nash also had a spectacular game dishing out 16 dimes, and an astounding 10 assists with more than 3 minutes left in the first half. He finished with 20 points shooting 6-11, and made all seven of his attempted free throws.
