Reggie Theus in Sacramento

Earlier today the Sacramento Kings announced they have chosen Reggie Theus; an NBA veteran with 13 years playing experience, as their new head coach. With the hiring of Reggie Theus the Kings ended a two month search after Eric Musselman was fired on April 20th 2007 after just one dismal season as head coach which started with him being arrested for drunk driving at the beginning of the season, and ended with the Kings accumulating just 33 wins.

Reggie Theus

The Sacramento Kings who had their first losing season in the last 8 years will have a tough time turning this years season around. Having not lucked out on this year nba lottery (10th pick), they still have a locker room full of NBA veterans most of whom have another year on their contracts, and only two quality scorers (Kevin Martin, and Mike Bibby). We might be seeing the Maloof brothers making some noise in this years offseason.

A Little Background

Reggie Theus started his NBA career with the Chicago Bulls in the 1978 season and finished runner up for the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. Accumulating 19,015 points and 6,453 assists in his 13 year career, Reggie Theus often nicknamed “Rush Street Reggie” made several all star appearances but retired in 1991 after playing his final season in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets. After his NBA career he played one more year of professional basketball in Italy before going into acting and broadcasting. In March 2005, he was hired by New Mexico State University to coach their men’s basketball team whom he led to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 1999.
