Okafor Joins Elite List

“Okafor opened the first quarter with 10 points and three rebounds, but finished with just 12 points and six rebounds to snap his streak of consecutive double-doubles at 19 games.” Source

“With 18 points and 11 rebounds at Washington on Dec. 27, the Bobcats’ Emeka Okafor eclipsed Miami’s Shaquille O’Neal for the most consecutive double-doubles by an active player during his rookie season, surpassing O’Neal’s 15 in a row during the 1992-93 season for Orlando. Okafor’s 16 straight games with a double-double are six more than San Antonio’s Tim Duncan’s streak of 10 during the 1997-98 season.

Below is a list of active NBA players who recorded nine or more consecutive double-doubles in their rookie season. The last rookie to have more consecutive double-doubles than Okafor was 12-time NBA All-Star Elvin Hayes, who registered 60 straight from Oct. 30, 1968 to Feb. 22, 1969.” Source
